Roter's Sonata for Double Bass and Piano was commissioned by Jeffrey Turner, Principal Bassist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He premiered the work on November 3, 1991 at Duquense University. The work has been performed at the convention at the International Society of Bassists and has been downloaded and played by bassists throughout North America and Europe.
